Scandinavian warmth behind black Crittall windows
From the street, Black House in Cardiff looks modest. Step inside and it opens into a light-filled, open-plan home designed by architect Robert Boltman with interiors by Reena Simon. The signature feature is the black metal-framed Crittall doors and windows — an industrial look softened by Scandinavian-inspired furnishings and carefully chosen curtains.
In the living areas, Silent Gliss 5600 electric tracks in black carry sheer Polyflax Wave curtains that filter light without blocking the garden views. The motorised operation handles the wide doorways that would be heavy to draw by hand.
The master bedroom uses a dual-layer system: Swiss-headed curtains in a sheer fabric for daytime privacy, paired with Wave curtains in a heavier Leviso fabric for blackout at night — both on separate Silent Gliss tracks. The children’s bedrooms have 4910 roller blinds in room-darkening Nox fabric, keeping things simple where it matters most.
The 5600 in black was chosen to match the Crittall window frames. Our 5600 is available in white and black finishes — or for a simpler plug-in alternative, the Autoglide 5100 offers the same quiet Wave curtain operation.
