Silent Gliss: More Than Just Curtain Tracks

Most people encounter Silent Gliss through their electric curtain tracks. That makes sense, because the 5100 and 5600 are genuinely excellent products and they dominate a lot of conversations about electric curtains. But Silent Gliss has been making window treatment hardware since 1952, and the full range covers considerably more ground than most buyers realise before they start looking properly.

Where the name comes from

Silent Gliss was founded in Switzerland in 1952. The name is literal: it describes the silent glider mechanism that runs the curtain along the track with almost no noise. This was the original differentiator, and it is still central to what they do. The gliders are engineered to a tolerance that most track manufacturers do not bother matching, which is why you can feel the difference immediately when you pull a Silent Gliss curtain by hand compared to a standard retail track.

Manual tracks

Before they made anything motorised, Silent Gliss built a reputation on manual curtain tracks. These are still a significant part of their business, and they are used extensively in luxury hotels worldwide. Not as a marketing claim, but as a practical reality: hotel procurement teams specify Silent Gliss because the tracks last, the gliders stay quiet after thousands of open-and-close cycles, and they do not need replacing every few years the way cheaper hardware does.

For residential use, the manual tracks are worth knowing about even if you are primarily interested in electric. If budget is a constraint, starting with a quality manual track and leaving provision to add a motor later is a legitimate approach.

Wave curtains

The Wave system is one of Silent Gliss's most recognisable products in contemporary interiors. It uses a specially designed tape sewn into the curtain heading that creates uniform S-shaped folds across the full width of the curtain. The result is a clean, rippled appearance that hangs consistently whether the curtain is open, closed, or anywhere in between.

Wave has become very popular in modern new-build and renovation projects because it suits the minimal aesthetic that a lot of contemporary interiors are working towards. It is available in both manual and electric versions, and the electric Wave track integrates with the same smart home systems as the rest of the range.

Electric curtain tracks

This is where DEC specialises, so it is worth being specific about what Silent Gliss offers here:

  • 5100 Autoglide — the workhorse of the range. Reliable, widely compatible, and available in a range of finishes and lengths. This is the track most often specified for new installations where the ceiling or wall will be redecorated around it.
  • 5600 — a more premium track with a slimmer profile. Often specified where the track will be partially visible, or where a more discreet installation is required.

Both tracks are compatible with the full range of Silent Gliss accessories, including remote controls, wall switches, timers, and the Move Server for app and smart home integration.

Roller blinds

Silent Gliss makes electric roller blinds to the same standard as their curtain hardware. The two main products are:

Both options integrate with the same control ecosystem as the curtain tracks, so a room can have electric curtains and electric roller blinds operating together through a single remote or app.

Accessories and control

Silent Gliss treats control as part of the product rather than an afterthought. The accessories range includes wall-mounted buttons, handheld remotes, timers, and the Move Server, which bridges the tracks to home automation systems like Control4, Crestron, and standard smart home platforms.

For most residential installations, a handheld remote or a simple wall button is all that is needed. The Move Server becomes relevant when the blinds and tracks need to operate as part of a wider home automation setup, or when multiple rooms need coordinated control.

What DEC focuses on

DEC's specialism is the electric curtain track and roller blind range. Silent Gliss also manufactures vertical blinds and pleated blinds, but these sit outside what DEC stocks and supplies. If you are looking at the electric products, whether tracks, roller blinds, or the accessories to complete the installation, that is where DEC can help properly.
